Okay! It’s officially the summer holidays here at abidemitv Towers. That’s right, I’m powering down for summer, but I’ll be back on 4th September with more fab content for you.
In the meantime, here’s what I’ve been up to:
A lovely, refreshing read.
No romantic story lines.
No cardboard characters of doozy females in a romance-or-career-decision narrative.
No stereotypical male characters of laziness and uselessness.
Just an insightful, well-written novel on the importance of kindness and friendship, and what happens when we exercise a little patience with people.
I loved this book. It’s definitely worth the buzz.
I’ve just started reading this. I am nowhere near finished, but I’m enjoying it so much that I decided to recommend it anyway.
It’s about a famous and unlikeable Victorian investigator, Sidney Grice, his ward, March Middleton, and a particularly horrific murder that the accused, the victim’s husband, denies committing.
Like I mentioned, I’ve only just started reading this, but it’s turning out to be such an enjoyable read that I’m including it here.
The Hate You Give
I’m picking this one up after the Mangle Street Murders. There’s a been such a buzz about this book that I can’t wait to devour its contents.
I’ve been watching and loving Borscht and Goliath on Amazon Prime (yes, I know, I’m late to the game), and Shooter (the Netflix series, not the film).
Alas, the only thing I listen to gospel is r n b and smoothjazz.com. And if I’m feeling intellectual, I rock up some Mozart. So nothing to report here.
You may or may not know that I absolutely love world cinema. In fact, I grew up watching more non-English speaking movies and television than English-speaking ones.
These are oldies, but if you’re looking to expand your visual entertainment repertoire (and impress people with your faux intellectualism oo-er) try these; my top three foreign-language television series and films:
- Israeli: Prisoners (the best television series, ever. Period. Homeland was inspired by this)
- Korean: Brotherhood
- Iranian: The Separation
That’s it from me until 4th September. Have a fabulous summer!
